on the picturesque tourist route to Foix, the High
Pyrenees, Andorra and Barcelona, our Le Fossat Guest House is found in the centre
of a pretty, historic village. A
short walk to restaurants, bars, plus shops, a supermarket, swimming pool
and sport facilities, Le Fossat is an excellent location to enjoy the
beautiful foothills of the Pyrenees, pretty & colourful villages such as
Carla
Bayle and
St Martin
D'Oydes, fascinating markets such as
Montbrun Bocage, easy walking in the
rolling countryside,
lakes
and forests. Watch abundant wildlife;
bird watching is particularly good in
the immediate area. We were recently involved in a UK wildlife filming project
in the local area. There is an excellent 10 Euros per day trout/carp
fishing lake nearby . Due to predominant c
lear skies and excellent air quality there are a number of
astronomy
observatories in the local area. Plus the 'Space
Centre' at Toulouse. Please contact us for more information. Le Fossat is also an ideal base for exploring the wider
Midi Pyrenees Region,
Toulouse,
Carcassonne
(right) and
Andorra. The nearest trans-continental airport is Barcelona El
Prat, just a 3.5 hours spectacular drive away through the Pyrenees.
Our home is an old village house full of French character & charm with a pretty, mature garden. Newly converted as a B&B, the guest accommodation offers 2 large, airy bedrooms (one double, one twin bedroom with space in each for an extra bed), a large private lounge with an open fire and views to the high mountains plus a small conservatory/sun room ideal for enjoying the warmth of the sun and a good book! There is also a pretty, mature garden with vines. There is a shower room and toilet. Our guest accommodation is on the first floor with a separate private staircase and entrance. There is free car parking. Secure storage for bikes is also available. Children are very welcome. We have plenty of toys and children's games. There are also books, board games and a large amount of local and regional information available for you to read at your leisure. Coffee & tea making facilities are provided. There are electric radiators in the bedrooms and the shower room has a radiator/towel rail. Although there are a number of good, friendly bars & restaurants within 5 minutes walk, we can provide 3 course evening meals on request.

Prices: 45 Euros for one room/per night (2 nights or more). 55 Euros for 1 night only. 70 Euros for 2 rooms/per night, including continental breakfast.

Ariege Midi-Pyrenees
Little known outside France and to an extent the Low Countries, the Ariege Department lies directly south of Toulouse, on the route to Andorra, rising dramatically to the high Pyrenees mountain range on the border with Spain. From towering peaks to sandy lakeside beaches, dramatic wildlife including bears, wolves (well at least in a park) plus easily observed magnificent birds such as the huge Griffon vultures and rainbow coloured Bee-eaters, the Ariege could be justifiably called 'Europe's New Zealand'. Add to this heady mix the mystery, drama and tragedy of the history of the region, in particular the 'Cathars', with their towering castles and blood curdling stories, then the appeal of the Ariege is boundless. The 'Ariegeoise' people themselves are welcoming, open, proud and seem very in tune with their surroundings. With easy access in all directions, east to the Mediterranean Sea in less than 2 hours, the wild and beautiful Atlantic Coast 2 hours to the west, the Ariege has a great deal to offer for all ages, activities and interests, with the common link of enjoying the great outdoors, dramatic history, stunning scenery and mouth-watering cuisine, all under a warming sun.
